Gabriela Hearst drew inspiration from the paintings of Levoy Exils for the macramé fabric. Everything Levoy paints holds spiritual meaning for him within the Vodou tradition, which they have taken care to preserve. He is known for using a patchwork of bright colors and graphic patterns as the foundation of his paintings.

For this collection, they translated them into a patchwork of textures, all in optic white. The fabric came to life in the hands of experienced Bolivian artisans. They began by crocheting the outlines of the spirits, then each shape was filled with a variety of macramé stitches and irregular woven stitches, made by hand with a needle. Every stitch, knot and weave was meticulously handcrafted, and it took 31 artisans more than 5,000 hours to complete the collection. The long poncho alone required 1,500 hours of work.
